RevMax Torque Converters: Prepare Your Vehicle for Winter

April 28, 2016September 21, 2024

As we enter into the month of November, it is hard to ignore the extra nip in the air. Temperatures across the U.S. have started to lower. And according to national forecasters, we can expect below-average temperatures and more winter storms this year.

As temperatures drop, it is essential to get your vehicle winter-ready. The right maintenance, preparation and tools can be a real life saver when harsh conditions hit.

Five Ways to Prepare Your Vehicle for the Winter

As an elite manufacturer of torque converters, valve bodies and transmission, the experts at RevMax Performance Torque Converters know a thing or two about vehicles. To help you prepare your vehicle for the winter, we are sharing five tasks everyone should do this year.

  1. Stock Up – Being stranded in your vehicle can be dangerous in any condition, but when sub-zero temperatures are involved, it can be fatal. Hypothermia is no joke, and freezing your cookies off is no fun. Be sure to stock your vehicle with the following: a blanket, jumper cables, a flashlight, a first-aid kit, chains, water gloves, a shovel, matches, ice scrapper and a bag of sand or kitty litter.
  2. Check Your Tires – Your tires give you traction, and when icy roads are a threat, traction is the only thing keeping you on the road. We suggest having your tires rotated and inspected to ensure they are safe for the winter. You may also want to consider equipping your vehicle with snow or all-season tires depending on what part of the country you live in.
  3. Guard Your Interior – Don’t forget about the impacts the weather can have on the interior of your vehicle. If you are going to spend the winter months in and out of the elements, pick up some all-season floor mats. They’re easy to clean and your floor with thank you. Also, be sure to keep your glass clean. Clean windows reduce your chances of having steamy glass.
  4. Seasonal Maintenance  – If you went through the summer months ignoring your check engine light and haven’t had your vehicle serviced since Ground Hog’s Day, now would be the time to get that stuff done. Top off all fluids, replace filters and check your brakes. Extreme temperatures create a lot of strain on your vehicle, and it will need to be ready.
  5. Maintain Your Coolant System – Last but not least, the most important tip is to get your vehicle’s coolant system checked. If any part of your system isn’t in tip-top shape, swap the parts for new ones. Cold temperatures and harsh conditions can ruin your system if it isn’t properly maintained. Don’t forget the antifreeze!

A little preparation goes a long way to keeping your vehicle running smoothly during the winter months. Not only will these steps keep your vehicle running in the elements, they will also keep you safe.
